How our instant alerts are made

Last updated: October 16, 2026

Every instant alert on EarningsIQ starts from a public record. This page explains where that record comes from, how we turn it into an article, what we check, and how often it updates.

Where the data comes from

We only write about trades and ratings that are on the public record:

  • Insider trades: SEC Form 4. Company officers, directors and 10% owners must report their own trades to the SEC within two business days. We read each new Form 4 from SEC EDGAR and take the shares, price, date and role straight from the filing.
  • Fund holdings: SEC Form 13F-HR. Investment managers with over $100 million in U.S. stocks file a 13F within 45 days after each quarter ends. We compare a fund's new 13F with its previous one to find new positions, exits, adds and cuts. A 13F shows holdings at quarter end, so it can be weeks old by the time it is filed.
  • Congress trades: STOCK Act disclosures. Members of Congress report stock trades in periodic transaction reports, filed with the House Clerk or the Senate up to 45 days after the trade. They list a dollar range, not an exact amount, so we report the range.
  • Analyst ratings. Rating and price target changes come from public analyst rating feeds. The rating is the firm's opinion, not ours.
  • Market data. Prices, market cap, earnings and other stats come from third-party market data providers and can be delayed.

When we have the link to the exact filing, every article links to it in its source line so you can check the numbers yourself.

How articles are written

  • The headline and the summary at the top are built by code straight from the filing fields (who, bought or sold, how many shares, dollar value, date). No AI writes those numbers.
  • The longer article is drafted by an AI language model. It gets only the filing data plus market data, and it is told to use only those numbers, never to guess, and never to give buy or sell advice.
  • The byline reads EarningsIQ Research Desk, the team that builds and maintains this pipeline.

How articles are checked

People do not edit each article before it goes live. Instead, every article runs through automated checks before it is published:

  • Sentences with known error patterns (for example a made-up "prior rating", or 13F wording on an insider trade) are removed.
  • Headlines and the top summary use the filing's own numbers, never model output.
  • Short articles, articles about a company we cannot name, and articles that read too much like our other pages are kept out of search results (noindex).
  • We fix errors when we find them or when readers report them.

Automated content can still be wrong. Always check the linked filing before you rely on a number. Found a mistake? Email legal@checkearningsiq.com.

How often alerts update

  • Insider trades, congress trades and analyst ratings are checked every hour.
  • 13F fund filings are checked once a day, since they come out quarterly.
  • Each article shows when it was first published and when its data was last refreshed.

Not investment advice

EarningsIQ is not a registered investment adviser. Our alerts report what was disclosed. They are not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any security. Insider sales, fund exits and analyst downgrades are not automatically bad news, and buys are not automatically good news. See our full Disclosures.
