How to Calculate Dividend Yield

Dividend yield is the annual dividend income expressed as a percentage of the current stock price. It tells you how much cash return you get from dividends alone, not counting any price appreciation. To calculate it, multiply the per-payment dividend by the number of payments per year, then divide by the share price.

For example, a stock paying $1.00 quarterly ($4.00/year) at a $50 share price has a 8% dividend yield. Yield changes daily as the stock price moves.
